After Japan

After Japan

A Poem by Nao Deguchi

After Japan

We are both alike

The routine I know so well

Life contracts and death expires

An expected release

Into nothingness

You fear it, I don’t

Imposing separation

Where our life

Was a wicked immersion

Into absolutes

Even the clouds couldn’t go

Where the soldiers fell

And the mothers died

In child-birth so many times

We are both alike

The reincarnating directions

Of love and might

Of struggling with negation

Towards some harmonious whole

Incapable we were, so readily

To master all of our forces

Like failed Taoists we had

To leave the foothills

And in the city we felt

The creator too must be blind.

About
I will go to great lengths to encourage writers of Asian origin. Of these, Indian are my favorite. They have a beauty of sentiment that is not replicated in english. I do not like to leave a trace.. more..
