Cobwebs & Dustbunnies

Cobwebs & Dustbunnies

A Poem by Nansi London
"

I wrote this one night, two years ago almost, when I was feeling bubbly I suppose. Tell me, does it envoke any old memories for you?

"

Do you remember that night,
when all the stars came out to dance upon the
waves of the silky midnight sky? Not one was left hidden.
We turned out all the lights and,
played hide and seek with the fireflies...

We were children then.
Careless, free and flamboyant little creatures,
without a stain or wrinkle...

That night was unforgettable.
I can still remember the way we dressed in silk and sheets
and the feel of youthful love skipped our hearts...

I watched your eyes become the moon and you said that
mine were like the sun.
What a phenomenal we had preformed; we made the sun and moon
meet at last, and their love for each other
was finally rekindled...

And as we danced in the fields of wild flowers,
we felt the moon dust of the little fairies
being sprinkled into our eyes.
We landed softly in the silky bed of flowers,
and laughed gleefully at our little adventure...

I remembered the way you pulled me close,
and whispered songs of love into my heart.
That night or day, we slept in each others arms
as the proximity of our bodies kept us warm...

The memory will always dwell in my attic,
surrounded by cobwebs and dust bunnies.
but whenever i feel it's beginning to look too old or faded, I go to that secret place and wipe away the dust bunnies and cobwebs. That's when I'll ask again:
"Do you remember that night?"

Oh, for sure... this evokes a sweet memory of a very special camping trip with my high school sweetheart...the embers glowing softly through the night, wrapped in each others arms, watching the stars "dance upon the waves of the silky midnight sky"...what a beautiful memory...thank you.

Ah yes, laying side by side in the back of a pickup by the river under the stars looking up and wishing for forever, wishing we were the only people on the planet.. No one to judge us and tell us over and over it will never work, never least until inevitably we believed them. There is no love like that first love that you think you might just die over rather than let it end.. The best memories of all time, but also the deepest wounds.

Now though ater all these years, we can reminisce together and laugh and sigh, so long as we don't make eye contact too long =)
