Stardust

Stardust

A Poem by Nandawula Regine Kabali-Kagwa

He wished he knew sooner
To have noticed the stubborn intensity of denial
That effortlessly ran from his lips
Dedicated to catch up to the "wishful thinker"

Her

Guilt will forever stay rooted within him
Guilt that endured a growth spurt every time
Only to be uprooted by refusal
He simply refused to accept that he was wrong

He wished he was never too late
Late to notice that time has weathered away her patience
It now lay brittle, like the theme of autumn
Broken down further by her "wishes lost"

For she wanted "everlasting"
And he only had "temporary" to give
As the time ran low from dusk until dawn
Their Golden Hourglass chimed their finale

He wished he knew sooner
Now he understood the brutality of "wishes unreceived"
As she had mistaken him for a Shooting Star
When he was just... His Own Light
