THOSE NEEDLING PINES

THOSE NEEDLING PINES

A Poem by NANCY MCCORMACK

THOSE NEEDLING PINES,,

Those needling pines
were talking again
of what they had
seen from their
point of view
Old and worn from gossip
finger tip to branch
passing secrets
within rings of growth
Ugly gnarled not stately
at all was the first to
uproot on its own
ashamed at what it had
shared
Now dry rotting alone
in pieces as it should
One was taken by force
tallest of the tall
held broken boards still
lies broken ready
to be burned
One fell all on her own
because she never
took any part
She took all the secrets
with her
carried them for years
and never whispered
I remember the day
she went down
graceful sad
without a sound.

Thank you very much for taking the time to stop by and read :)
I absolutely love it!! It flows so much, that it's like butter on a skillet!
