I Long For Yesterday

I Long For Yesterday

A Poem by Nims FallingDewdrops
"

Its not easy to forget where you gave too much to remember...

"
A pale crimson hue was just beginning to slice
through the dull grey horizon, creating a
mirage of juxtaposition.
I had woken up to
my phone ringing.
Looking at the beautiful sky
palette for one last time, I reluctantly got up
to answer the call.

It was him.

His voice was loose on the other
end, drawing out words longer than necessary.
Very unlike him.
He was obviously drunk.

Tying my messy hair into a knot atop my
head,
I rubbed my forehead fearing he had
forgotten.
He didn't remember how he had
pulled me so close to him for four years and
then lobbed off the thread a month ago.

There really wasn't much for me to say. He
was doing most of the talking.

Conversation
was easier, because he had shed off his
inhibitions.
He had forgotten the boundaries
he had erected for us.
Four weeks ago. He
said things more easily that would otherwise
need much coaxing. His voice crawled further
as the crimson semi-circle rose in the sky,
overlooking my room.

The day was tearing
into its harsh reality.

As I stared at the beginning of a new day,
I
felt my eyes stinging, warm water rolling
down my cheeks, flooding back a rush of
memories.
The last time we spoke, he had
asked me never to call him again.
Yet, before
he hung up, he asked me to wake him up in an
hour for class. Just like old times. A hope for
the future. A hope to looking forward to an
old custom.

I counted the gnawing minutes of the past
hour. Letting out a deep nervous breath, I
called him. This time, his voice was different.
Not loose anymore; stern and curt.

Apologizing for the morning, he hung up on
me abruptly. Twenty seconds. That's all it
took.
To leave me just as I had been
abandoned a month before.

Staring fondly at the flock of birds flying
towards the morning sun, I wished the ball of
fire had never risen to herald in the same old,
brand new beginning.

Oh, how much I longed
for yesterday.

That was an amazing, if sorrowful, tale. I really felt bad for the narrator.

As the story unfolded, the scenes you described, the emotions conveyed were very clear. Your word choice was excellent and really fit the the piece. It also flowed well. The almost title drop at the end was perfect and powerful.

This is..one of the better works I have read on this site.

Great job.
