In the Grass

In the Grass

A Poem by Jean Calvin

I kept running through the thickets,
My short legs kept me hidden in the grass
As I chase after you.
The joy of a game of tag still lingers
As I hear your laughter echo
And I follow it.
How come I never found you?

I'm older now,
And the tips of grass tickle my eyelashes
As I push my way through the field.
No longer are there any echoes.

Why did I never find you?
All I ever found was bones.
