Osteo

Osteo

A Poem by Jean Calvin

I've always felt you,
All during these long years
As you were ripping my sinews.
You kept chewing
As I laughed at you,
Pretending that you weren't
Really eating a part of me.

I hear you at night,
Slurping on the marrow
In my bones,
That's all that's left nowadays.
You ate the rest long ago,
and maybe,
You came back to finish the scraps.

Where will you be after that?
When my bones turn to dust,
There'll be no reason for you to stay.
I think I'm probably going to miss you.
