The Beach

The Beach

A Poem by Jean Calvin

Recluse solitude among others
In a circle of pines,
To run away from the
Trivia of normal reality.
But you can’t get off my mind.

So I take a walk down to the beach,
Hoping that never-ending sea will steal my thoughts.
But it only brings an unexpected encounter
With you, As your family discourages my presence
Though, I satisfy their pleasure of not noticing the face
I haven’t forgotten.

And sit down and curl on the sand and gaze out on
The cold blue nothingness,
And I close my eyes to avoid the emptiness.

I wake up,
And find you resting your head on my shoulder,
And your hand placed on top gripping it softly.

I tilt my head
To rest on yours
And then closing my eyes, Drifting off to sleep,
Because I know that’s the only way
This moment will last forever.
