Forest Fires

Forest Fires

A Poem by Nakagawa
"

A battle of truths and lies hidden beneath the canopy.

"

Underneath this canopy of trees
lies the lives of three
One lie, One Truth, One a mix between the two

This trio of eminent destruction
rages war between the trees
follow the shell casings
Find the fallen between the leaves

Keep your hands up or free fall
Surrender what you believe
My lie, your truth.
The firing squad makes a mess of the two
Lying dead among the trees, crawls out
the last of the three
From
My lie, your truth.
Making love,
Creating something new.

The trapped rain breaks free
infiltrating through the tops of the trees
Finding its way down,
cleansing the war torn ground.
No fight remains
evolution has found its domain
You say its survival of the fittest
More like a masquerade

Keep your hands up or free fall
How can you distinguish between
My lie, your truth.
The so-called enemy created by the two
The lone sniper atop the trees
Seeing the spectacle unfolding
beneath
One shot. One kill.
Zeroing in on the last of the three.

The shot is heard from all
but only one will fall
Our love will die on impact
leaving us torn apart

For the time I didn’t fight
to keep you by my side
I surrender my lie
In the clearing beyond the treeline.
