The Comfort of Covers

The Comfort of Covers

A Poem by Nakagawa
"

The security we had underneath our sheets as kids and how its uses have changed up until today.

"
Blankets make walls
Shield us from all of,
the fears that evoke our tears
security in layers
repeating our prayers
Its edges up to our eyes
And …We laid breathing…
…We laid breathing…

She felt needed
behind the walls
I hung from the ceiling
expecting to disappear
To never be revealed…
…The look in her eyes
Brought the stars to my skies
And
Blankets make walls
shield us from all of
the times we regretted and knew it all along
From day one until the curtain call,
And she laid breathing…
…why do I keep seeing…
her during my starless nights
and I’ll lie awake
insecurity in layers
losing faith in all my prayers
Its edges are up to my eyes
but to my demise
the fear is already inside
and blankets make walls.

A amazing poem. Protection can be a safety and a prison. I like how you use the blankets to create a wall of safety. A outstanding poem. Thank you.
