That day

I was sitting with my mother and she said me these exact words.

THAT DAY

"What is the use to yearn for a thing which we cannot attain?" she said,

I was downhearted and speechless,

You cannot have me back mother, but don't you miss me was my heart whispering.

Please don't mention that it needs to be a bit longer because I tried to capture a moment of my life which is so close to my heart.

It certainly does not need to be extended. It's good as it is. I would suggest putting in quotation marks around the dialogues to give it more clarity. About the subject, it was heart touching. Your mother's words are true too but something which is easier said than done..
