Childhood

Childhood

A Poem by Najam Us Saher
"

When we are young, we want to grow up and doesn't realise the importance of being a kid; when we grow up we want to be a kid again....

"
CHILDHOOD
I miss those days when my tears stopped abruptly
When I was handed a chocolate bar,
Nothing was as soothing as licking ice creams and sleeping in a moving car.
Where are those days?
Where have they gone?
It seems that I grew up,
And now I have to be strong.
Broken crayons made me cry a thousand tears,
And now it's much worse,
Where are those days?
Where have they gone?
It seems that I grew up,
Now this is where I belong.
There were many to look after me,
I was never alone with my toys,
Today, it seems a mystery to find a single joy.
Broken toys were easy to fix,
Rather than broken hearts.
My childhood is over,
Now this is where my story starts.
Where are those days?
Where have they gone?
They are now a memory in my mind which I have to get along.
Floating bubbles were so much fun,
And also those ping pong balls,
They rose so high,
Making me feel higher.
I would startle at the burst of a balloon
And then I would cry,
My tears stopped abruptly,
When I was handed another toy.
It was nice being a kid,
Why did we ever grow up?
We had so much fun,
Now why do we just want to give up?
Hold on, live like you are young,
Live in the memories of your childhood,
Sing those songs you left unsung.

This poem really speaks well to it's audience.

Being at the verge of graduating high school and going to college, I can relate quite well with the sensation of time passing by in a blur.

There aren't too many people who really look back and say they want to go back. I can most definitely say I am not one of them.

I like how you described the passage of time. It made the entire poem come off as bitter sweet and nostalgic

As always you ask such philosophical questions. What is it that makes us grow up even if we do not want to?
I agree with you in that the past seems a mixture of perfection and ease, but then when we look back it is what we make of it.

There is truth in all that you write. Life has a simplicity in youth, when others can solve our problems with sugar or something brightly coloured, alas, when we grow up it is not always that easy.

Many thanks for entering,
Eliza

Growing up is bittersweet as life goes from paper dolls to 3d. I see it and feel it here in your poem. thank you for entering my contest, and good luck :)

Thank you so much. I am glad to know that you liked it. ☺
Perhaps those with a happy childhood would think this. So many children today are raised in foster homes or one parent homes. But if one stays a child they will miss all of the adult things that also can bring joy and happiness. Valentine

This poem is amazing!
Gave me goosebumps all over as i was reading it!
It's really good no great to feel like a kid again, not a care in the world no problems nothing to worry about it.
I miss those days too.
Well wrote.

Ooh, why have you reminded me of my childhood memories? those days were full of love and passion for everything. Mistakes were never mistakes...the world seemed beautiful but alas! now nothing makes sense, we have to fight for love, struggle with our inner persons to solve our outer problems... i love this poem

Thank you so much Sir. I am glad to know that you liked it. ☺
Being a kid, I was never a toy playing girl unless you count guns as toys lol which was what I played with :p So I miss that part only because obviously I can not play with guns now :p Other than that I don't miss my childhood. You could say I've had the worst lol so who would want to go back? Besides, living in the present is much more fun to me and keeping my eyes on the future ;)

I liked how you wrote about your nostalgic feelings even though I can not relate. Regardless I enjoyed this piece :)
