WanderingA Story by NabuA new beginning for the chosen one. 4-4-08 The thundering in the distance causes the sky to surrender to its strength. Flashes of brilliance illuminate the shoreline. Tears stream down my face, as I urge the strong beast beneath me onward. I can smell the scent of sweat and ocean, the sounds of the waves crashing along the beach, and racing hoof beats fill my ears in the darkness. I know not where I am going, or what I am to do. What have I done? Where am I going? With a kick, I send my noble steed, my friend, onward at a even more frightening pace. I know the cliffs are coming soon. I know where they will take me. Lightning streaks acrossed the sky above me. Flash, deafening thunder follows right after. I know the storm is upon me, and yet I must reach my goal. Grabbing the black hair between my fingers, pressing my face into the muscular neck, whispering. “Sham, it is time. Please Sham.” The connection between us is strong, he can feel the energy I need, the courage. I know that soon, all that I have ever know will be gone. All that I have loved will be lost, never to be re-found. My heart screams out to me, as I feel every hair on my body stands on end. Then between the flashes of light, I see the face of the cliffs. They are not far. Soon, very soon a new beginning will find me. Closer they come, closer is my destiny. “Sham, trust me, she will not let us down. She has never let us down.” With a strength unknown to beasts of man, the great blood bay stretches out his stride. His muscles tightening and relaxing with every step he takes. His breathing is deep and labored, but he gains even more speed. Closer, closer they come. Biting my lip until I can taste the sweet saltness of my blood. Closing my eyes, letting the moment take control. I can hear the hoof beats change, the ground beneath us is now rocky and uneven. With great strides, the ground is blurred. A sudden helplessness over comes me. I know where I am at, where I am going. I know now that there is nothing that can turn me back. We have come so far for this. We will never turn back. Never. I can feel my energy inside waxing like it never has before. All sounds are fading, the smells and the sense of who I am is blurring. I open my eyes, and the edge of the cliff is before us. With a great leap, and a piercing scream he leaps off of the cliff. The sound of rushing wind consumes me, the change begins. I can feel his body contorting, ripping with the change. His soft hairs beneath me become smooth and hard. His muscles bulge and twist, great black wings sprout out from his shoulders. I try everything I can to stay upon his great back, but my senses are so overwhelmed that I can't control my body. I scream, and I hear a great roar in response to it. Sliding down his side, into nothingness, I black out. I can't be certain what happened after that. All I know is when I woke up, I was safe. It was still dark out, and all I could see around me was grass taller then I was. “Hello? Sham?” There was a rustle a few yards away from me. I could see something glowing, was it eyes? Large eyes, shimmering in the darkness, brilliant, multi-faceted, like looking into a perfectly cut diamond. Every color of the rainbow was shimmering in those eyes. For a moment, I forgot to breathe as those eyes started to slowly move towards me, and I can start to see a large looming shape close in on me. The smell of something sweet flooded my nose, closer, closer the eyes moved towards me. I could make out a long, muscular neck, strong massive shoulders, glossy wings, folded neatly acrossed the creatures back. Its head, angular and strong, and those eyes, those big beautiful eyes. “Am I dreaming? It this real? Am I dead?” The creature moved into view, a large dragon. Its scales were the color of blood, its wings black as night, as were the lower parts of its legs. It lowered his head down level with my body, much larger then I am. It was studying me. Slowly I reach out, and cautiously, I touch its glistening cheek. So soft, yet so striking impenetrable. “Sham?” “M' Lady.” a voice gentle yet powerful filled my mind, yet I did not hear it with my ears. Startled, I staggered backwards, taking in the sight before me. “Don't be afraid, it is me M' Lady.” With a tenderness, unbeknown of a creature of his size, the great dragon nuzzles into her side with his muzzle. “It is your time M' Lady. The change has begun. The time of your change is upon you. She has blessed you as her Chosen One. The quest has begun.” “Quest, yes, it is time. The Lady of the Moon has changed me. I can feel it from within, this strength that I had not in my past. I am still myself, yet so different, so strong with the Lady of the Moon. She has blessed her child. I can feel her radiate from within me, our souls intertwined as one. Sham, but I know not what to do.” Suddenly, I became aware of all the noises from around me. The sounds of the crickets moving in the thicket, singing in the night. The rustling of the leaves beneath the dense forest around the clearing. Owls hooting as they hunt the night for prey. I find myself suddenly more aware then ever before in my life. Around every creature I could see a slight glowing aura. © 2008 NabuAuthor's Note
