Legacy

Legacy

A Story by Nabu
"

This is about my beliefs, and how I view the world with my eyes.

"

As I sit here pondering the events that make life what it is, I am reminded of how short life can be.  I am reminded on how the little things are what really matter when it comes to life.  That if you make the most out of all of the events in your life, that it will be more worthwhile.  And while there are times when no matter what you do and think, things never seem to go the way in which you hoped for.  For all the wishes and dreams that you may have, that in the end, your legacy will be left behind as you move forward in your eternal journey.  That this journey starts with birth, your first steps, your first love, your children, and then your death.  What you do with what you have been given, is that kind of legacy that you will leave behind.  Love honestly, have many friends, and show them what a true meaning of what a friend is.  Be there for them while they are happy, hold them while they are crying, and share in their tears and sorrows.  Always remember that being true to yourself, and true to others is what all Deities have in mind for their children.  That in following the footsteps of your chosen path, walking in the life of God, or the Goddess, that it brings you closer to your kin, and friends.  By being true to yourself, you will leave a legacy that for generations to pass, will remember you with honor and cherish your memory always.

Recently I have been asked to pray for a person that is of a faith that is not my own.  I took it upon myself to pray in a way that would offend neither the Goddess, or the God of the one who asked.  In that prayer, I found that I have so many questions, and the answers are only a heartbeat away, yet unobtainable.  I search in my soul, and I see the light and love that is the Goddess's own.  That being pure is such a hard thing when the world would do so much harm to her children.  But then I look deeper and see that the Mother Goddess is the Earth, and all of the creatures here are her children.  Whether our beliefs lie in the one God, or in multiple, that being good and just is what we must all do.  I come from a background of many different people, all with very different beliefs.  I find that I am one of the few that have chosen a path, that not many will travel.  A path that leads to the greater good, but at a very painful cost.  The cost in the eyes of many is eternal salvation.  My heart knows that my soul will go on forever, but in many forms.  I am content with that.  I find that there is a greater peace than you can imagine when you know that at the end of the rainbow, there is more than just a pot of gold.  There is another rainbow that leads to your next life, and that your path is infinite.  The only regret I have is that most will never accept me for my beliefs, and that some people will always try to change me.  To find a mate in this lifetime, to bear a legacy to, is a dream that I dreamt a thousand times, and have yet to see even remotely come true.  Yet I will never leave my chosen path, and I will be forever searching, if that is my destiny.

I will pray for my friends, and for all the people that have come and gone in my life.  I will pray that they find their true happiness, and that they find the path that is right for them and are guided by the virtues that make them who they are.  I pray that they will get to know me in a way that is befit a Priestess of the Goddess, and that they will come to respect me and my decision in this lifetime.  That they will know that I am a honest and loyal person.  That my beliefs are right, even if they are different then their own.  And that I will never force my beliefs on them, and they respect me, and not force theirs upon me.  I just wish they accept me for who I am, and know that in the end, we all will reach the fate that is our destiny.  Even if they are different, they are still righteous as long as you are true to yourself, and all that is around you.

It's brilliant! I think the title could just as easily be "Credo" or "Manifesto". What you've written about isn't just something to leave behind, it's something to do right now, in this life.

And doesn't it suck to be judged solely on your beliefs? Hang tough, Nabu; you're not alone.

One thing: "And while there are times when no matter what you do and think, things never seem to go the way in which you hoped for." - Never end a sentence with a preposition! (Ever hear that joke?) Drop the "for" and your piece is perfect.

If you have more writing, I whole-heartedly encourage you to post it. I guarantee that not everyone will love it but that's not really the point, is it? Let me know about it, too, and I'll be sure to critique (everyone's got an opinion, eh?).
