Going Down Corruption Avenue

Going Down Corruption Avenue

A Poem by Nabothi Hanotohi

We are everywhere
with angry faces
looking down upon all
of you, the masses.
With a faked smile
we can make you hurry
without you knowing
it has been our plan
all along.
The mood changes are something
you will have to deal with
because,
in all honesty
it's not quite
our problem now,
is it?
Schizophrenic,
I am not,
so hold your tongue
save that for the Queen.
Our spies are everywhere
watching you
spotting your every move
making sure
you obey
to us.
The more there are of you
the more controlling we become.
We decide where you go
and when you go.
Freedom of speech?
Freedom of thought?
Freedom of choice?
The three of us would disagree.
Scary huh?
How we control you
with our simple
shifting expressions
of approval
of doubt
or dismay.
And you just let it happen
it's laughable
at best.
Pathetic humans
hail to us
the true governing system
you may call us
traffic lights.

Scarily provocative. Portrays a dystopic society wherein freedom is compromised, held hostage by the narrator. I love how you played up the detachment and indifference/irreverence in tone to really convey the lawlessness of the 'bullies'.

Very nicely penned. Good job! Thanks for sharing.
