Chapter Two: The Recruit (Work in progress. The second option)

A Chapter by Gemzi

Deran and I moved as far as we could on our first night, setting up at dawn, watching the strange figure. After a few minutes, we thought it was safe enough to set up camp. Out came the tent, radios, camera equiptment and mapping station.

We set up the base cameras, and changed the body cam batteries, keeping a look out just in case something was in the sand, or around us. The sun hitting the sand as it set, having been setting up camp all day, it was quite hot, but thankfully Deran and myself were completely knackered, and the setting sun had made it cool off quite quickly. The sky was rather red, but slowly turned purple, then black as the sun sank under the sand and disappeared for the night.

No-one knew why or how the Earth continued to rotate, espescally when everything was all dried up. Most people were too busy to care, but we still had some form of life on Earth, and shuttles would bring water and supplies from other planets.

Finally, we set up our beds, our tent was big enough for each of us to have our own personal areas/bedrooms or space to sleep. Our beds were very easy to assemble, just roll out the mattress and fold out the base, put the mattress on the base, and you're done.

Usually we would sleep during the day, but setting up everything up during the day, was easier without having to first set up the lights, our torches and other, rather unnessary things. Falling asleep, was probably the easiest thing that I had done in a while.

When I woke up the new recruit was standing over me, standing over my bed, just staring at me. Their eyes were a rather dark red, which then turned into black, soulless eyes, as the smiled, blood dripping down their mouth. I slightly froze up, staring at them, my hand slowly reaching for my gun, which should have been to the left of me. However, it wasn't there, I start to panic as they laugh, and point their gun at me. I glance rather quickly to where my gun usually lies, noticing it was inches from my hand, I grab it, c**k it, aim and shoot.
BANG went the shot, they fell on the floor with a loud THUD, bleeding a deep purple, their blood was purple!?
I got up quickly, checkign they were actually dead, before calling out for Deran. There was no answer, so I ran to his room, he lay there motionless, as I sobbed, grabbing the radio to try and get to the boss, but all I heard was static, I ran outside, the sun was just rising, gun still in my hand, I broke down, screaming and crying.
