An Introvert's DilemmaA Poem by Nate S.An examination of the inner-mind of an introvert, or at least my introverted mind.Your mind is full Of thoughts and ideas Like a jar of swirling magic But the lid is shut tight Phone calls Are your ghouls and goblins And the words on a screen Are far easier Far safer Far better A facade to hide behind Showing somebody That you really want to be To feel as if A single conversation Is an hour long workout And a crowd Is like a constricting snake Squeezing out every inch of life And leaving you to be eaten up To have the desire To meet every person in the world To know their stories But to have no drive or outlet to do so Like a strange paradox That not even you understand An ideal night Isn't spent in flashing lights With loud noises Surrounded by strangers But rather In a room Alone With a gadget With a book With a journal You harbor in your heart A deep love for others You care You feel You have passions You have desires You are human It's just a matter Of how you express it The desire aches Poking and prodding At every fiber of your being The desire to speak The desire to be heard The desire to be brave The desire to let go Of everything holding you back Every insecurity Every fear Every doubt Every embarrassment Every thought up scenario That you're convinced will happen So let go Break free Rip off every chain Open your mouth And speak with love Pick up the pen And write with fervor Let out the feelings Release your passions Run with reckless abandon There's a spotlight waiting for you Be brave Find it Bathe in its gleam Strong Confident Alive © 2016 Nate S. |
