Snow Woman

Snow Woman

A Poem by N.Sevilla
"

The speaker is female. That does and does not matter.

"
I found her in the snow
Skin without color, lips pale
Hair, a raven black
I took her to my fire
Her cheeks took a shade less white
But the rest stayed pale
"I am a snow woman," she laughed
I believed every word she said
The way she shivered from joy
Rather than the cold
She was beautiful with coal black eyes
Fingers slender and freezing
I could break her, I think
She would shatter like an icicle
Her lips looked so smooth and full
Though hardly visible
I leaned in and kissed them
I could feel them melting
She looked at me and smiled
Nothing surprises a snow woman
She took off her coat
Even if we were outside
And I saw her graceful body
Making her look more fragile yet
She held me close and I heard her breath
Quiet and soft
I heard her beating heart
The thumping of a storm
"I am a snow woman," she said
Who else could have the heart and breath
Of snow?
She kissed me, her tongue snaking in
She tasted like winter
All the flavors of winter
From the first chills and first falling flakes
To the howl of storms and freezing drops
To the slow going and arrival of spring
We stopped when I could taste the melting
I asked if my warm lips bothered her
"Spring must come one day," she replied
I tried to imagine her in spring
I couldn't
It was as if she were always in winter
No other season could co-exist with her
Those slender fingers reached out
A snowflake landed
It sat on her palm
A glowing diamond
Frozen longer than it would have in my hands
Then it melted into her
We caught flakes on our tongues
Like children
Her tongue was so red
Perhaps because everything around was so white
She took my hand and gently pulled me along
I looked back
Ever step we took left a trail of melting snow
Slowly disintegrating into Spring's green
Yet she stayed frozen
A perfect ice sculpture
And we ran
Ran laughing
Ran forward
Always forward
Blending into our eternal winter

I'm still a bit iffy about the ending. Please let me know your thoughts

Random note: I actually drew a picture of the snow woman. Unfortunately, due to my horrid artistic skills, I refuse to post it. But I think it captures her like she was meant to be

Slight minor cosmetic edits needed, but the words over all are not only pleasant but have their own emotions and sync perfectly.

This is good work. I love the concept of the Snow Woman and the imagery you have created for her. There is a sense of spirituality, of Native American beliefs. Indeed, many tribes celebrate the Winter Solstice as a way to honor their ancestors, their belief system, and a way of offering prayer and gratitude. And so, in many ways your poem is one of belief and gratitude. The Snow Woman a mystical creation embodying the very nature of the season. Well done.

I, too, was kind of iffy about the ending. I think the transition from Winter to Spring came too abruptly. Simply just to wake-up and find her gone ... and Spring suddenly in her place. I think I wanted to stay with the Snow Woman and as we walked off hand in hand, I turned to see Spring awakening behind us ... melting the traces of our footsteps in the melting snow.

Plus, I'm a sucker for any woman who's a great kisser.

Thank you for sharing and give the ending some thought ... and don't be afraid to show your drawing!
