The Bonds That Withstand AllA Poem by N.Sevilla
Light falls gently through the dusty windowpane
To fill one spot like a permanent stain. A golden pool in a room of dark: The only sign of life to leave its mark. Drowing within this pool of light, A forgotten doll with skin pale white. Broken and withered from time and weather; Memories are the only thing holding it together. Red lipstick fading on her brow From the mother whose lips are long gone now. On her hair, a velvet bow, From the little girl who loved her so. Around her child-like arm, a glue filled crack, From the boy who broke her and the father who put it back. The surrounding walls once held joyous laughter, But crumble now with no one to look after. The house now sleeps and waits for dawn, But never wakes with its sun now gone. In an abandoned house, there lays a doll Held together by the stitches that withstand all. © 2011 N.Sevilla |
