FlashbackA Poem by N.SevillaA poem inspired by 12 Days
Flashback
You sat in the empty laundry room Staring at the mesmerizing cycle Without a glance at my face Your eyes, looking slightly ashamed Those words, from the lips I kissed "I was thinking about baby names." Flashback Upon the roof Basking in the club afterglow Seeing you after 8 years A cigarette between my lips And a lighter ready at hand Those words, from the lips I learned all over again "You can't kiss me if you smoke like that." Flashback Shy glances as the frying pan simmered You hummed and sang Those foreign words I could not understand To time our dinner to perfection. Flashback Silent and fulfilled Minutes after our secret frivolous activity And a mere half hour before our argument Those words, from your lips Whose wish I could not grant "I want to have your child." Flashback Sitting in the backseat of a taxi Your hair, a river spilling on my shoulder With soft breath Those words, from betraying lips "I'm getting married." Flashback A car crash before your honeymoon. I didn't go to the wedding. Flashback You said, lips slightly turned up With an air of romanticism "Queen Artemisia drank her husband's ashes To become his living urn." And now Forgive me As I forgave you Though now your lips are ashes I will drink you.
