Can't Quite Fit

My response to every "soul-mate-other-half-fate-brought-us-together-I-can't-live-without-you-forever-and-ever" believer.

We are two pieces of the same puzzle

With our purpose printed on us

But our pictures don't quite match

And our curves and grooves don't fit

But I'm sure if we move a little more

We could ignore the space between us

That's all right that we weren't born 

To complete one picture

I'm not your soul mate, not your other half

Yet it makes our love so much sweeter

That you do not live to love me

And Fate has not planned our future

You could get up and leave 

And I will continue to live

Because you are not my flesh

And that's okay

I'm sure the taste of my self

is not nearly as exotic

We are two pieces that don't quite fit

Too tightly in some parts

In others, a space in between

It comforts me to know 

I'm jammed up closer to you than your soul mate could be

I am lucky to know the space that divides us

Reminds us we are individuals

What makes our love all the sweeter

Is that you don't need me and I don't need you

But we laugh at Fate as we make ourselves fit

Imperfectly

But

We don't give a damn

The flow is a bit sketchy, but hey, it's free verse. Also, I have abandoned punctuation, as you can see (except the one comma) . Because I like words. Not grammar.

I loved the constant struggle that occurred between the pieces in this passage. The acceptance of both the distant space and cramped quarters were very effective.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review! Yes, a wise person once told me (back when I was younger) that two people should not base their entire happiness on one person. Which became my inspiration. To love but to continue to be two individuals.
