We ThreeA Poem by N.SevillaThe thoughts I have when I am with my uncle and his boyfriendWe sat tight in the truck, we three. Bumping along the quiet streets. We laughed and joked, we three. My uncle, his boyfriend, and me. We did normal things that night. Picked up a pizza and a soda. And I, secretly in my mind, Made us a family, we three. I, the lesbian daughter. They, my flamboyant gay dads. I thought of this in secret while We picked up the food for the rest. Back home with the rest, My mother and brothers and others, I sat in the front in a chair, And they at the back on a sofa. We watched the movie and I snuck a glance back. They snuggled close and whispered Like young lovers though my uncle was not. We were the gay ones, we three, And everyone knew in the room. That night on the patio, as we sat and watched Movie after movie, outside. And my mind was half there, The other half, gone, To imagine what accepting parents are like. © 2012 N.SevillaAuthor's Note
