An Empty CottageA Poem by N.SevillaA girl/guy goes to visit his/her love in the country side, only to find her long gone
For months I sent letters to the girl I love
who lived a long ways from here. I lived in the city and she out there in a cottage straight out of a fairy tale. She had a beautiful stone path and flowers that bloomed and a freshwater well in the back. A beautiful place for a lovely girl like her, I promised I'd visit her soon. I sent her a letter, a few months ago, "I'll be there in summer, my dear." But there came no reply, not a single word, then summer came and I left. Her house was beautiful, at least that's what she said, So why were her flowers wilted and dead? The house looked abandoned and the windows dark, not a soul made a whisper in there. A note on the door, firmly attached, faded from time and weather. And to my surprise and to my dismay it was addressed to me. I read the note, and my heart coiled, saddened by the words it said: "I'm leaving now, to another place, I apologize. Goodbye." "I apologize", not "I'm sorry", as if it were all in vain. The closeness we had, gone, only a professional formality remained. Not a letter to inform me when she would be gone. Only a note that I would find if I came all the way here to a rural town with nosy folk whose eyes could feast and read what was meant for me, "I apologize. Goodbye." And my heart then broke.
