In Waking Lions

In Waking Lions

A Poem by N.S. Bennett

My heart beats
Slow, steady, well defined
A simple way to create
A world colored outside the outline

There's nothing better
Than knowing you're waitin' inside the illusion
A fostered insecurity calling us together
Now we're all one among the substitution

I won't give in to sleep
I won't be taken again
A beast amongst the sheep
Wild, untamed, a light-hearted lion

They will not take us
Proud and patient
Find us waitin' in the forest
Animals we are in our fake skin

Awake the natural light
Oh, sleeper where have you gone?
Awake and see the night
A lion's roar will greet the new dawn

I won't give in to sleep
I won't be taken again
A beast amongst the sheep
Wild, untamed, a light-hearted lion
