Today I Woke Up

Today I woke up

The sun fell politely through my window

Skipping softly across my face

Falling slowly onto the floor.

A cheerful tune glided softly around the room.

The window was still open

from the night before.

Birds song drifted through the aperture

on a balmy breeze,

mingling with the music

forming something new

and wonderful.

Blankets knotted

during tossings

and turnings

the night before

slowly righted themselves

as I pulled my legs closer

to my chest.

The numbers on the clock change

several times

before I can muster

the strength

courage

love

confidence

hope

alertness

I need to face another day.

Today I woke up.
