Heartless Souls

My family are such cold people.

Why do I seem to be the only one
Who can look at this one-eyed creature
And smile with love in my heart
At her abnormal feature

Why do I seem to be the only one
Who doesn't give her mean nicknames
And just laughs with joy
At her silly little games

Why do I seem to be the only one
Who questions what I did to make her snap
And doesn't judge her character
At her little mishap

Author's Note

Yeah, Luna (AKA Poppy from Little Poppy) may be 10 years old, missing an eye, and walking a little funny as her surgically worked on knees heal up, but I love her for being a little be strange. She's a very loving little dog and yet my family gives her mean nicknames like Cyclops and thinks she's a biter because they picked her up like you would a cat. Am I the only one smart enough to know you don't pick up a wounded dog by the wounded parts?

I love my little Cyclops damnit.

and i wouldn't call cyclops a mean nickname, i mean, they could have picked a name from someone in the DC universe, which would have been a thousand times worse!
the only thing i would change is the word "little" throws off the count in that line. but it works as it is. and there should be some question marks in there, as you are asking each stanza.

You evoke such a love.. a love that looks beyond the outward appearance into the joy and beauty within.. And this can speak to Luna, or any of us.. Not all have eyes that can see beyond the surface.. I'm glad you do.. The world needs more who see deeper and feel more deeply too.
