AnimalsA Poem by NJ SchneiderWe're just a couple animalsYou felt sick the first time that you saw me After all these years apart As if I'd stabbed you through the heart Your pain was clearly painted on your face We should despise one another, I felt sick the first time that I saw you After so many years alone Proving that it had not turned to stone My heart ached to see you within my reach for the pain we've caused all these years
You barely choked out a panicked helloBefore whispering if I hated you Questioning like you didn't have a clue Dark sepia eyes smouldering my soul and dragging others into the darkness with us. I barely managed to force out a steady hi Before shaking my head with a rebellious smile I asked if you could bear to stay awhile How badly I'd yearned for those burning eyes Our verboten relationship caused so many tears. You gave an apologetic smile As you said quietly that would be sublime But that you weren't going to jail a second time The fear was apparent behind those eyes Though somehow somewhere along this troubled path I tried to give an understanding smile As I hoped the branches could mend after the fire For some reason I'm still burned with desire Even after all the suffering you've cause me we realized we'd love each other once this smoke clears. © 2011 NJ SchneiderAuthor's Note
