Little PoppyA Poem by NJ SchneiderI found a new friend.
Spring night
Chilly as the wind blows Warm light floods the parking lot From the diner where I just left friends Still laughing lightly to myself In thought of past things spoken Start the car A slight shiver runs through me As the engine roars to life I turn on the lights Let off the brake And make my way home Light turns red And I hit the brakes A small patch of darkness Creeps out of the night Walking awkwardly Back leg dragging Turn off the car And get out to help She's dirty and cold I take caution Before picking her up She's shivering wildly Return to the car I place her in my lap And coo to calm her She stays still As quiet as the night And we head home © 2011 NJ SchneiderAuthor's Note
