When You Wish...

When You Wish...

A Poem by NJ Schneider
"

I have hope that we will grow one day...

"

I wish...

We could go back,

To the carelessness of childhood,

Where friends were real,

Parents were invicible,

And dreams came true.

I wish...

I didn't feel so lost,

And so alone,

In my sea of friends.

They try to relate and understand,

But they get lost in the maze I've been trapped in.

I wish...

I could make you understand,

That even though they hurt and make us want to die,

Relationships are worth fighting for.

They're the cause for the maze in our heads in which we are lost,

But they also provide the map to help get us out.

I wish...

People could see themselves,

See their strength,

To see their love,

And the ones who love them,

When they look in the mirror.

I wish...

Men could love women,

As equals,

As they are,

Body and all,

Never wanting to change anything.

I wish...

A boy could touch a girl,

And feel her soft skin,

And realize that even her flaws,

Are what make her perfect,

And that's why he loves her.

I wish...

Women could love men,

As equals,

As they are,

Body and all,

Never wanting to change anything.

I wish...

A girl could see a boy,

And see the softer side he hides,

So she can embrace it,

And never let him know she knows,

because she loves him that much.

I wish...

People could love people.

As equals,

As we are,

Race, ethnicity, religion and all,

Accepting each other no matter what.

I wish...

There was no violence,

No need for police,

No need for prisons,

No desire to kill,

And everyone cared.

I wish...

A lot of things,

Even if they may not come true,

I wish them anyways,

I wish you,

Would wish them too.

We all have wishes- and a lot of your wishes seem to be the same as mine. I really love it. It shows a lot about life and wishing things would get better. I love it Niki. It's another one of those poems that makes me sad yet happy when I read it. It's a strange feeling. I know you're feeling down right now- but I'm sure things will get better. Let's hope together and maybe things will turn out for the best. I will always be by your side when you need me so whenever you need to open up to me, feel free to do so.
I love you Niki

wow!!
In way that in itself doesn't even say it all. Truly beautiful, and the remarkable way you said it made me want more, and I learn more and more about myself and your writing capabilities each time I read a poem of yours.
Writing is boundless and has a spirit of its own, you showed this to us, in this poem as your writing is more then that.
Thank You

Yes, I do.
I think all of us wish for these things.

This is an amazing piece. You've put together so many facets of life here.
Beautiful.

Beautiful piece that encompasses all aspects of growing up. I'm very familiar with these feelings and you write this piece from a very relatable perspective of most-anyone who has been through their late teens-early 20's. Well written & great ideology!

By the way, Thank you for your comment on my piece & the welcome! =)

i am enchanted by this piece. At first I was challenged because I could not relate to the sentiment. I was caught up on the first stanza:
I wish...

We could go back,

To the carelessness of childhood,

Where friends were real,

Parents were invicible,

And dreams came true.

These are all ideals I do not know, however I was trying desperately to take my emotion out of it and concentrate on the writing. Then as I read on I found myself not only charmed by your wishes but emotionally wrapped up in them because I feel so much of it as well. I had to place myself in it and think, what is wrong with Wishes. I get so caught up in things that are more concrete actions. But wishes are like prayers. They can be like longings. goals, hopes. Wishes are kind of what faith is. You are such a beautiful writer. Thank you!

I liked it. I wish alot of the same things. You did a great job pointing all those things out. When you get a chance (and haven't already), check out my poem "Perfecshion".

I think the emotions expressed here are those many will share. I think your work in progress expresses many of these same wishes. Well done, very thoughtful
