A Cheap Imitation

A Cheap Imitation

A Poem by NJ Schneider
"

I was bored and couldn't think of anything to write.

"

My mind clicks...
With ideas that everyone knows...
Things that have already been thought...
So many years before me...

Movies our eyes have already watched...
Books we've already read...
TV shows that are out of curve balls to throw...
Music that sings the same song just in a different tune...

How are we suppose to have an original idea...
When someone long before us has already thought them...
Songs, movies, books, shows...
All diseased with the same story...

We live in a clichéd world...
Doomed to live this plague that is...
A cheap imitation...

How do we have original ideas? That is a really good question. I tend to agree with Legion - we can't. But, we can sure make the same old ideas sound interesting to people. Good write.

I really enjoyed this one. It's always difficult to sort out if what your wanting to write is just in your head because you've seen it elsewhere before. I do my best to be original. Unfortunately you've hit the nail on the head and there aren't many tales that haven't been told before.

Yeah, it is a cliche' world we live in, because we have felt it all. the only way to create new is to blend bits and pieces of the old, recycle ideas and bring semi-fresh ones to the front. Since we are but human beings, not gods, we cannot create the materials anew. So we are forced to work with what we have. It takes a great deal of concentration and creativity to recycle old ideas and make them look new.

I really like it- and I agree with you fully. I like your use of bold letters to make words again, it always catches my eye.
I really like your writing- you know that.
Great job

Well done. There are no original thoughts truly. Every thing has a protaganist and/or antagonist. All ideas are repetitive in one form or another. Good poem.

It's true - there is nothing new under the sun. Everything has been done before. The only thing we can try to do is do it better :)

Do you miss someone?? I was just wondering.... Love the flow of this piece. It feels a little on the lonely side, but still hopeful. Good stuff!
