A Lost Battle

A Lost Battle

A Poem by N Gaarde

Give me a reason to.
Give me a sign.
I simply don't understand,
Why we do the things we do.
And I hear you speaking my name.
Calling.
Like it's the only work you know.
And I go, like a mother,
To see if you're okay.
And you are, yes you are,
Just missing me, missing me.
I really don't understand the words that you speak.
You say that you love me but it doesn't seem right.
Knowing that you aren't the only one that I've known.
And it makes me feel dead inside.
Because I failed you.
I didn't even try.
I failed you.
I didn't mean for you to cry.
But I failed you.
And I know we can't go on like this.
When my heart belongs to someone else.
And I'm sorry for all the lies,
But it was the only way to know,
That you're better off without me.
That I was never you're battle to win.
