The Riddle of the City of Gold

The Riddle of the City of Gold

A Poem by N.D. Reed

It lies in a bubble sealed off from the rest,
It lies on the edge of east and west.

It's a city of gold and city of darkness,
It's a city that loves but also heartless.

Like Sodom and Gahmorrah, its a land of vice,
Like any such place, we yearn for a slice.

It holds many friends, some true, others not.
It holds many rivals, thirsty to plot.

The sun is its bane and money is its god.
The place is familiar, yet also most odd.

It's a place split both ways, good and bad.
It's a place that makes you happy or sad.

We left with fond memories of that wonderful place.
But stay too long and you'll forget your own face.

Much like the description of today's world. A little different though. Nice work.
