GomenesaiA Poem by NicholasAn apology... of a sort.
“It was an accident,” I said, in rusted words that tasted like bitter, bitter yellow as you
turned away from me, looking as blue as the wind “I
swear,” whispered, low and rough, like a square But
still you didn’t look back, in the afternoon, which was clear but felt like
dying purple. “You
know I didn’t mean to call you unloving, unlovable,” I said, soft and cold,
like jade You
didn’t come out from hiding behind your long dripping curtain of black
hair “or to
walk away like that, and leave you, standing in the rain that tripped as it
fell” But I
could tell you were crying, silver plastic jewels, like beads. “that
night that felt heavy, like gilded iron, after we fought, when you drove all
the way across town, headlights dancing in the night And I
ran out of the house, all the way to meet you” “I
didn’t mean to abandon you there, alone in the night like an island abandoned
in a black sea Or all
those cruel yellow plastic things I said like unseasoned green glass poison,
you know I never meant them”
Yes,
as silent as the moon sliding from behind a cloud, yes I did. © 2011 NicholasAuthor's Note
