Leaves

Its gone. Gone.

Those leaves are long gone

They fell about a month ago

They toppled from the trees and vanished

To the floor where I can’t see them

I must have known them better than any kid

I stared at them every class

Through the window I see them

Or saw

And I watched them slowly turn red and orange

Then slowly fall

Leaving the trees to their branches

Leaving the white birch there,

Sole remainder of the of the leaves that once adorned it

Until next spring...
