Forever Reading

Forever Reading

A Poem by Nicole
"

Inspired by Iacoboni's "Mirroring People"

"
I read the look upon your face,
I read the signs of time and place,

I read the words upon this page,
I read the signs of coming age,

I read the tone of what you say,
I read the passing of the day,

I read the book within my hands,
I read each tiny grain of sand,

I read the sun and moon and stars,
I read the highway's passing cars,

I read the love in what you do,
I read the chance of something new,

I read the world in every moment,
I read for this is life's first component.

Inspired by Iacoboni's book, "Mirroring People" which discusses the human processes of mirroring through empathetic emotion. He asserts that we read even we do not know we are reading, constantly, every second, all the time. To read is to bring what is external into your own personal internal, or to absorb the Other and build a proximity with it. I thought this was incredibly brilliant.
