The Enigma Called ”Life”

The thing called “viruses”.

Are intermediate between life and death

The most simplest microscopic beings

Yet so complex to decipher.

Although it has no organ systems but

It proliferates superbly in living hosts

But turns dead outside .

 

Take the case of bacteria

The ancestor of all living beings

It is a unicellular, prokaryotic chap

But it is so diverse and adapted to

Extreme and contrasting niches

No living being can dare to live in !

With time ,how could it develop such resistance ?

 

The sponges may look simple to the eye

But inside they are composed of cells

So specialised , where the shape and contents

of each entity defines its  function so well .

And how did the cnidarians come to know the

art of making toxins ?

 

The plants appear static to you, na ?

But take a peep inside

You’ll see how water and food

Flows through it in dedicated tubes

Filled with specialised cells .

 

Let ‘s not go so deep,

Just see the design imprinted in its foliage ,

Fruits ,and the structure of its roots .

Look at the arrangement of leaves,

And flowers on its stem .

It is also interesting to see

The symmetry in all Living beings

The way their bodies are made ..

And do you know how they all grow ?

Cells divide and redivide …

Through complex processes ,in such

A sequential manner , all the time.

Who taught these cells the art to grow ?

Who filled it with so many organelles

Whose structures are an art to behold ?

 

Your answers might be evolution,

Mutation and natural selection .

But what drives these complex processes ?

What makes life so enigmatic to digest ?

And how is it that neither you nor I would have known

These stuff if we weren’t educated ..

 

My cells know how to undergo mitosis but I don’t .

The plants without brains know

How to make food from Sunlight,

But I don’t .

Oh yes, I had. This was the only subject apart from Mathematics that I loved studying rest all not my cup of tea.
