Heaven

Heaven

A Poem by Nate
"

This is more of a story than a poem, so for this piece I am going to officially create a new word, (drum roll) "Stoem". It seems to me that I am better at pulling on heartstrings than most anything else. Please enjoy.

"

I knew this one child, her name was Heaven,
her smile was simply... Heaven.
Her parents adored her
did almost anything for her,
as she was their little piece of... Heaven.

Heaven’s mother was told that she’d
never bear child
and that rocked her to her core...
But she never cried or complained,
she carried on and maintained
her relationship with God in... Heaven.

Because of her strength, her husband
did fall, much deeper in love with
his wife...
As he knew he was blessed to
be in her life...
To him, life with her was... Heaven

So you can imagine the joy
when they learned they’d
been blessed, and were
having a bundle of... Heaven.

The day she was born
there wasn’t a cloud in the sky
and you could see all the way...
To Heaven.
So it was that 'Heaven'
was a name that was fitting,
because they had faith that
God was the answer.

So as a tribute to Him,
they named their child in His honor,
for she was truly a blessing from... Heaven.

Heaven was walking before she was one,
and talking before she was two,
she knew her ABC’s and her 123's
and her favorite color was blue,
(excuse me, she corrected me, I meant
to say, light blue) .

She had the gift of bringing smiles and laughs
to those in need of laughter,
and she was lauded and applauded by all of her
grandparents as being a living
“Happily Ever After.”

At the age of (4) four she began
to sing, and her voice would fill
the air, “she’s only (4) four
years old? ”, People would ask
when they heard her, as they
were compelled to stop and
stare.

“Yes Jesus Loves Me”, that was her
favorite song,
and Heaven never got tired of singing it,
for hours she’d go on and on.

Heaven always listened to her mother,
and her father she obeyed,
she never complained when she couldn’t
go out, or how she didn’t really like
her hair in braids.

She truly is an Angel,
so many said of...Heaven,
the same was true
at her birthday party
when pretty little Heaven
turned seven...

Her birthday was not unlike
that of any other child’s party,
there was candy, and clowns,
and toys and presents,
and laughter that was joyful
and hearty...

Heaven thanked her parents
for such a wonderful party
and thanked each guest for
the gifts that they brought her;

In fact, Heaven always said
“Thank you” and “Please”
although her parents aren’t
even sure that they taught her.

A bright colored Pinata
hung from a pole in the yard
and the kids took turns
trying to burst it.

When little Tommy had his turn,
he was turned a couple of times
and then Heaven’s father said
“Swing away, Tommy! ”

Tommy swung the stick once at the
Pinata, but the first time he missed it,
he swung 2, then 3, then 4

But the fourth time he swung, he was
so close to Heaven...
she clutched her face then she fell
to the floor...

Silence filled the air as everyone looked in
despair as Heaven lie bleeding and still.
Her mother screamed out her name,
it’s such a heart breaking shame;
blood from Heaven, such a sign
filled with pain.

She was rushed to the hospital,
where emergency surgery was done,
12 long hours and still they weren’t done.

Finally a doctor emerged from the O.R.,
Covered in blood and his face was so grave.
Heaven’s father stood up, her mother sat down
as the news rocked them to their core.
Little Heaven fought bravely, but her life
was shattered, it pains me,
for Heaven will be singing... in Heaven...

Her mother she wailed as her father grew pale,
and held onto each other for support.
Time ticked on infernal, her father’s guilt
was internal and her mother made no secret
of how she thought him to blame.

In her bedroom they packed,
all of her books they did stack,
the pictures of Little Heaven just smiling.
The paintings she painted,
and the pictures she drew,
and all of her dresses in the pretty shades
of her favorite color; light blue.

In her jewelry box there was a letter,
and they read it together,
Heaven’s words flowed and so did their tears.

“Dear Mommy and Daddy,
Please do not despair,
for I know that you love me,
I know that you care.
But this day has been coming and we all knew it would
we just held onto the good times for as long as we could.”

“God sent me to love you and for you to love me,
did you think it was by chance that we met?
You had so much love and so much to teach,
so God wants you to have no regrets.

The lesson in this that He wants you to learn
is that love is life’s greatest joy.
You are my blessing as much as I’m yours,
and 7 years with you gave me a lifetime of joy.
But if you let a tragedy that none could foresee,
rend you and tear you apart,
then you’re not being true to all that you’ve taught me,
and you’re not being true to your hearts.

You were meant to be and you are still in love
and I have been blessed to know you.
So give God the praise, give in to His will,
and have faith that he will show you the Way;
The path you should take and the road you should follow,
despite the pain in your hearts that make life so hard to swallow.
I love you both dearly, my mommy and dad,
and I’ll always be alive in your hearts
I’ll wait here in Heaven, until the day that you join me,
and we’ll never again have to part.

And until that day comes,
keep me alive in your hearts
as I’ll always be your little... Heaven

Please hug now and kiss,
and never resist,
the chance to love
what God gave you...
Give Him the praise, all of your days
as God is the cure that can save you.

Now I must end this letter, because He’s calling my name,
and it’s a calling that all have to answer...
I love you both dearly,
and I’ll see you both soon

Sincerely,

Your Little Girl...

Heaven

I have been writing since I was about 10. I began writing to express the agony inside of me as I was a victim of child abuse and neglect. No one seemed to truly understand why I was the way I was an.. more..
