Illusions

Illusions

A Poem by Nate
"

Okay, so I was bitter. . . instead of being destructive, I was constructive. . . this was the finished product.

"

You told me that you loved me, though it was him you were in love
with.
You told me that you missed me, though it was him you were longing
for.
You even promised you'd always be with me, but it was him you
promised your
heart.

Illusions

I remember all those affectionate kisses, but realized too late that
it was him you were kissing
passionately.
My heart, so heavy over losing you, full of regret, remorse, and
repentance, was the mirror opposite of your own heart, light and
elated– full of new joy, new love and the stolen promise of new
beginnings...without me, with someone else...

Illusions

I...take you...to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold,
to love and to honor... and forsaking all others, keep thee only unto
me...
Still more...

Illusions

I say that I'm fine now and I'm no longer hurt but this is the
illusion that I cast so that you'll never know how deep my wounds
are, how empty my world is and how broken; my heart...
But my illusions are necessary because they give me something to
focus on other than the agony you've caused me, other than the pain
that I feel, other than the knowledge that I was so thoroughly
deceived by your...

Illusions

But even as you smile at your new love and live in your renewed
house, built by me for us but shared by you with him. Even as you
reap the benefits and rewards of the success of the illusions you've
cast... my own heart smiles deceptively, for it acknowledges the
success of your plans, but it also knows that nothing done with
malice, no plan conceived behind the veil of deception ever comes to
fruition. You believe otherwise, that is unwise, and is an illusion
that you have inadvertently created.

And that my love no more, is the greatest illusion of all

About
I have been writing since I was about 10. I began writing to express the agony inside of me as I was a victim of child abuse and neglect. No one seemed to truly understand why I was the way I was an.. more..
