Give!
Can you?
Without expecting
anything in return,
Without the benefit
of
Praise; a gift that’s not for Profit;
Will you?
Give!
To a nameless face,
A stranger in the crowd,
Could you?
For the reward of seeing another
Smile,
And feeling the enormous satisfaction
Of knowing that you
Are the reason for that
Smile,
Would you?
Give!
The last of what you hold dear,
If it would be the first that someone else
Has ever had?
Even if it’s something that you have always wanted
But another could benefit more from it
Than yourself.
Should you?
Give!
Out of the goodness
Of your heart, to dispel the belief
That so many have, that Good Samaritans
Are extinct and Evil rules the
Hearts of Men.
So that your name can be
Remembered as being one who gave,
Not because you had to, or even because
You were expected to, But because
You Wanted To.
Who will?
Give!
Their time, their support, their efforts,
Their resources, their knowledge
To enrich the life of one or the lives of many.
From their multitude to increase the
Minuscule,
From their surplus to replenish the
Scarce,
From their heart, for the good of their
Soul
Will someone please,
Give!
As another gave to you,
As a perfect man came and gave his life
To atone for the sin that we inherited from another
Perfect man.
Without asking for repayment,
Or a favor in return,
Because you know that in giving
A greater gift you will
Earn
Are you capable of such unselfishness?
Or will you continue to delay,
The blessing of helping another
Who needs you today?
There’s enough need for us all
And too much is never enough,
Can you give when you’re hurting
Or when your own going gets rough?
Will you continue to ignore me,
And add up the many regrets?
Oh, so you say that you’ll give?
Then why haven’t you
Yet?
