Chapter 2

The young girl standing in front of me fell to her knees and began praying. I was not only amazed at her behavior, but what she was saying as well.

“Dear angel, I await praise and forgiveness.”

“Um, did you just call me an angel?”

“Yes, if you wish I could call you anything such a great angel would wish.”

“That would be fine and dandy, if only I was an angel. True I have wings, go ahead and laugh. All the others did were I came from.”

She lifted her head at this, “You mean, you’re not an angel?”

“No I’m not, just an ordinary boy of fourteen with wings.”

“But, then why are the fairies attracted to you?”

“So that’s what these are. Well as for that matter, I’ve no idea.”

“Can I have one?” she got to her feet as she asked.

“It’s not my choice to make. These little guys are smart enough to make their own choices. If you have one, it is by their choice.”

At this some of the fairies lit up and flew in excited patterns. I’d seen a pigeon get excited over a large find of worms, it had circled repeatedly and then would nose dive for the ground only to pull out at last second. This was similar; only give that pigeon a gallon of Pepsi and you’ll have the general idea.

“It looks like they would be delighted” we both laughed as one smacked it’s head on the soft earth. Her laugh was unsteady; she was still uncomfortable with me

One approached the girl cautiously, “My name is Ares, I can fly fast as a cheetah can run, and can give you large strength.”

She politely declined, and one after the other came to propose ability and a gift. She finally chose a young silvery blue fairy by the name of Artemis. This nifty fairy protected her from most magic and granted her some magic of her own. Artemis didn’t explain the kinds of magic, but magic it was nonetheless. She made a good deal.

Both looked like little children, giggling and playing with glee. While they were talking I got a good look at her. She was smaller than I by about a foot, her arms and legs held confident muscle though. Her blue hair matched the color of her fairy, but it only glowed in the sunlight. Her blue eyes seemed to lay a trap for any poor guy looking upon them. They were stunning compared to my green ones.

She noticed me looking at her; I turned my head to watch the fairies. My cheeks were probably as red as my hair. My hair was a dark burgundy.

“So tell me, if you’re not an angel, then what are you doing so far north?”

I remembered, north was the direction the portal took me, “I got bored and flew away from the life I had.”

“Ok. Now seriously, who are you? There isn’t any way into the Northern Providence except through the shields, which are imposable to pass. I know you’re not from around here, you hair color doesn’t match your eyes.”

Wow, she’s good, “well now. That is a long story.”

“That’s Ok, I have until nightfall.”

Interesting, a girl could get around my lies easier than my own mother. I was forced into telling her every detail of my escape from Palace Town.
