Chapter Four-P
I awoke to a meteor crashing into a nearby house. I sleepily got out of my sleeping mat on the floor and opened the window. The house was across the street and a few houses to the left. I was amazed in my stupor how large the deadly hole was. The meteor had entered the two story house from somewhere in-between the two floors. Its downward diagonal path had destroyed much of the family’s possessions. Then I smelled the smoke. FIRE!
I hurriedly got dressed in my cloths with slits in the back for my wings. I opened the window and glided down to the scene where the water boys were already working their magic.
“There’s still one more trapped on the roof! Somebody get a hoverboard!”
“I got him!” I yelled as I drew out my wings.
What the bloody hair was I doing!? Too late, I was already in the air and flying to the little boy. I reached for his outstretched hands. They were very sweaty. At first I couldn’t get a proper grip, but then he got me in a bear hug. I stumbled; I was not used to this unexpected weight on my shoulders.
Before I knew it, we were back on the ground and safe. Seconds after I had landed the fire had weakened the roof to collapsing. I hadn’t been a second too late. The kid let go of me and ran to his mommy.
Through all this, I didn’t until now realize how burning hot I was. I felt like a blazing summer sun, but in the eastern sky the sun was just breaking the horizon. I focused on my cold magic like my dad had taught me.
I regularly did this to keep myself cool on hot summer days. I would call on a small surge of power barely enough to cool my skin. This time however, I felt an enormous surge of power that was just too much. I was scared, if I couldn’t get this under control I could become an ice block.
I did the only thing I could think of. My arms went up toward the burning house and white powdery snow blasted forth. The fire was put out in two seconds.
I turned and saw the family and water boys staring at me.
“I, uh, it was an accident” I was as surprised as they.
“That was no accident. Young man, you’re a wizard, and a powerful one at that” who was this?
“Actually I was just trying to cool off, I guess I underestimated.”
“No, I am a wizard; I can tell somebody who has the gift from a wizard” this man just didn’t get it.
“There isn’t any difference though; a wizard just has a stronger gift.”
“My name is Ezuil, if you find you suddenly believe me, you can find me on the east island Friday morning” I guess he meant the floating island pointing east.

Ezuil walked back down the street away from the bird boy. This child would need training. He and the boy had one thing in common; they were both marked as trouble by the palace.

I have always been curious, not to the point of passion, but curious nonetheless. I wanted to know what would happen if I went to the east island. So Friday morning as the sun was breaking the horizon, there I was; and I was waiting. He showed up soon after I got there. He was riding a hoverboard.
Hoverboards were normally a snowboard or broom with a flying spell on it. His was the typical snowboard with an attachment for his staff. I wonder what kind of wood it was made of.
“Petrified hickory, that’s what it is made of” dude, he can read minds, “No I can’t read your mind, just make a guess at the curious expression on your face and where your eyes are pointed” wow, he’s good.
He was dressed in plain light green robes. I decided to cut straight to the heart of the matter.
“It’s not that I believe I’m a wizard, I’m just very curious as to why you think I might be one.”
“First thing’s first, did you feel exhausted or nauseous after blasting that house with snow?”
            “No, I felt fine.”
“Can you think of any other incidents that have been similar to your underestimations?”
“Hmm, yeah; once while I was at a friend’s camping trip, I lit the campfire with excessive force; I think I used wind to trip a kid who was mean to me, he ended up a couple blocks down the road from where he started; and I believe I melted a fence into liquid metal, turns out the school doesn’t have any fences but the liquid is still too hot to touch.”
“The first was a powerful fire burst magic, the second was a wind pulse, the third was a metamorphosis spell, and your magic yesterday was a rapid freezing charm. Only a wizard could do such things and not feel exhausted. With the exception of prophets, all wizards have access to huge amounts of power through their gift.”
“So prophets do exist…” I was in awe; prophets could tell the future and were a myth.
“Actually, my father was the last living prophet in this cage.”
“Err; does that make you a prophet?”
“No, but I can feel when the winds of change are about. And trust me, they are all about you. You boy, are a boy of prophecy” I lay back on the soft green grass trying to ignore him.
“But how can you be certain! You could have the wrong guy, just because I have wings and the gift doesn’t make me a wizard” this guy was getting on my nerves.
“Let me ask you something, and be truthful in your answer. Have you ever been outside the city walls?”
“No, why would I want to?” I knew I was telling the truth, but I got the uncomfortable feeling that I was lying.
“You sense a lie, which proves it. You have both been past the shields the palace has conjured around the city, and you can feel your own lies. I can also feel the falseness in your words. There is only one more test I have to perform.”
“Tests, why must you test me?”
“You will not ask questions until the test is finished. Now, you love these islands do you not? Good, the north one is going to fall in five minutes.”
“WHAT! Are you crazy old man? If that thing hits somebody, they could be killed!”
“It’s not my doing, simply the spell coming to the end of its power. It would’ve fallen regardless of who was watching. Even though the wizard gave his life to these islands, every spell has its limit, and so the north island will fall, then the east, next the south, and finally the west.”
“Will you help me keep them afloat, or will you just sit there and pretend you aren’t a wizard who can help” I got to my feet just in time to see the north island begin its decent. It fell as if suddenly dropped by an unseen hand. It dipped starting at the north tip and started flipping over itself. The town below would suffer if I didn’t act now.
