Until it Sleeps

Until it Sleeps

A Poem by Myth
"

Written for an old contest, where the title was the prompt. Insanity is always nice.

"
I awaken,
And instantly
The screaming begins.

I clamp my hands
Over my ears,
And yet
The screams
Endure.

I want out
I want to be alone
I want there to be
SILENCE!

Through the screams
Come the whispers,
Audible
Though they should
Be smothered.
Terrible whispers,
Terrible voices,
Terrible things
They want me to do.

I try to hide from them,
To run until
My own screaming
Drowns out theirs.

But it fails.

I try to go through my life,
Pretending I don't
Hear them.

But I can't.

I am alone
In this whirlwind
Of sound.

Until the sun sets,
And I collapse in bed,
Listening to the screams
And the whispers
As they try to maintain
My insomnia.

But my body seeks rest.
The whirlwind continues
Until at last
They sleep,
And so do I.

And for a few moments,
A small, blissful time,
I know
Peace.
