You sheltered me

You kept me from all that was real

But you exposed me to your pain

Your demons

 

I lived your adult life

I was a child

I felt your pain

You’re my enemy

 

You lied to me

You told me life was fair

That people get what they deserve

You taught me fairy tales

 

You altered my mind

You ignored my opinions

You dared me to be me

You made me feel your hurt

 

I am a woman now

I still feel your pain

I still see your demons

I still stay sheltered

 

What have you done to me?

Why did you do it?

When will you stop?

Release me from you grasp.

Loved this stanza the most. Its a great piece and a lot of people would easily be able to relate im sure. It's well written, good job.

wow, i can relate to this one hon... i'm sure there are many others as well who will too. your pain, confusion, sadness and even anger whisper clearly thru the words you've penned... remember, you've survived, lessons learned and moved on. the past may still linger in the back of your mind but the future is waiting for you too :D
