Quilt

Quilt

A Poem by Mysty Rayn

As I stare at my life, I touch the woven quilt that has now become pictures of the past.

Woven in patches, my past pain, my present pain, long ago fallen tears, and tears that refuse to stop falling.

The silky border, a reminder that all will stay with me and there is no escape.

The thread that holds it all together, a promise that I will walk on my bumpy road and smooth out the paths of souls I cross.

The inside cotton, a soft place inside me that is hidden but only appreciated through the tears and rips between my patches of pain.

This is a touching, symbolic piece that reminds me of a person looking back over their past. It seems nostalgiac and you really bring your raw emotions into it. The quality that the quilt represents: the whole picture sown into one beautiful long lasting substance. I have a connection to this poem from my recent dream in which I was gazing up at a quilt, it was hanging over a window and the squares were in the patterns of stained glass....both symbols of early childhood memories. In searching for our past we find ourselves growing stronger each moment. Thankyou for sharing, keep writing, and I appreciate the comments on my poetry as well.

I can't begin to tell you what this represents for me. Quilts handed down to me are unreplaceable not only because of who made them but the reasons they were given. Memories do reside in our quilts and sometimes do tell a story about ourselves. I enjoyed this very much. Beautifully done.

This is very lovely and very sad. Espcially liked the ending lines:

The inside cotton, a soft place inside me that is hidden but only appreciated through the tears and rips between my patches of pain.

Thanks for sharing a wonderful poem.

Short, touching, painful and sweet - the last line leaves the reader with a sigh....
