My BlockA Poem by Mystik
My Block
I hear the screams and the cries Bullets are flying and my homey dies Every day I see stabbings and drive bys I walk past the crack houses they go to get their highs A mother grieves her only son who was shot This is the story of my block Where everyone is in a gang and owns a glock Here where I am from nothing comes as a shock No one lives past the age of twenty one Most eleven year olds here carry a gun We never know if we’ll live to see the nest sun Questionin’ when the next crime will be done This is my block, where I grew up, my home My entire life I have been on my own In this life you’ve got to learn to be alone After a while your heart turns into stone Nothing to live for, nothing to lose Last week a little boy got killed for his shoes But because he was poor it wasn’t in the news On my block humanity has nothing to prove © 2012 MystikReviews
