TroyA Poem by Mystic DreamsI wonder what Helen really thought? When once upon a dim, dark night The moon not shone her silver light The battlefield - Forlorn and lost Desolate and deserted
Those mighty warriors - Kings of men Lay fallen in the darkness then Two armies cast down to the Earth Noble and most righteous
And down to Hades did their souls Descend, there to be held in halls And never walk in Freedom's glow The honourable and the wicked
A wailing voice came from afar Perceived such loss under the stars The death of Love lay in her tears Hopeless - Inconsolable
On her fair shoulders all the woe Weighed heavily - And she did know Responsibility - Hers alone For this great devastation
Her love of one so fair and strong Had caused this grief and battle long The loss of Life and Freedom all Caught deep within her bosom
And as she stood her golden chains Cascaded down her back like rain A marble statue wrapped in Grief A golden Aphrodite
The glowing gossomer of her hair Caught Alexandros unawares The flame of Love - an instant spark And both hearts fell asunder
For Love does not know right from wrong She follows only her heart's song And let the World grieve for her faults Unto its decimation
And so the dice fell as it rolled And Love touched all who did behold The Beauty in this woman's eyes Virtuous and pure
For ten short years their life was sweet While armies fell beneath their feet Then Priam's allies honoured ties and Stood as one united
But time did go and pass all by And one side win and most men die Then Menelaos leaped the stairs To claim his golden prize
Now as she gazed out from the wall As Troy burned hot and then did fall Sweet Helen wept her silent tears And turned to face her jailer © 2008 Mystic DreamsFeatured Review
