The better days

The better days

A Poem by Vivien Shapiro

I constantly find myself in a haze wondering if what we had is still there. Your kisses have gotten shorter and your grip has gotten lighter. I've stopped saying things because you stopped listening and the sweet smiles that you used to give me have turned into blank stares filled with deathly silence. You've ran out of compliments to give me and instead decide to point out my flaws, saying I'm not living my life right and that I'm never going to change. It has occurred to me that maybe our time is over but I still don't want to believe it. It's happened many times before, but it cannot happen with you, oh lord please not you

I guess it all depends on our perspective. Better days need not belong to the past only - they may still be part of a future reality, and not a new one. Modern culture has conditioned many to start using cliches like "we have grown apart" or "uncomfortable silences" remain.

You have expressed these tough emotions and realities beautifully.
