The Entitled Dragons
A Story by Nadia
In a time when the sun barely peeked through gray clouds
over the land ruled by kings and queens, the populace lived in a shadow, not of
the clouds, but of eight fearsome dragons that relentlessly tormented the
kingdom. These fearsome giants ruled the skies and the people's hearts with
terror, demanding tribute and food and leaving little for the struggling
inhabitants to survive on. The most feared and notoriously cruel among these
dragons was Zolexor, the head of this fierce and tyrannical assembly, also
known as "the bull" for his unchallenged dominance and fiery wrath.
Zolexor's scales were as sharp as blades, and his eyes burned with an
insatiable hunger that left the fields and hearts of men scorched.
Beside Zolexor was his queen, Xilith, known for her equal measure of malice and
cunning, a true partner in instilling fear and maintaining control. The dragons
Drex, Vlem, and Bune, known for their brute strength, followed Zolexor’s
ruthless lead, while the female dragons Olanah, Unka, and Kareemah excelled in
agility and swift destruction. Together, these dragons were an unstoppable
force, their tyranny echoing for centuries across the rolling hills and dense
forests. Generations grew beneath their shadows, each too fearful to challenge
or even contemplate a future without these dragons’ dominion. The people became
accustomed to living in fear, scraping by with barely enough to feed
themselves, always leaving enough to satisfy the dragons' insatiable appetites.
However, change often arrives unnoticed, like a whisper in the wind, and so it
was that the winds of change blew in with the new generation of 2025. This
generation, nurtured in a digital age of rapid communication and change, was
different. They connected across cities and towns, their voices amplified by
technology, united by a common frustration and a unique determination. This
generation, empowered by their understanding of technology and communication,
began to weave plans and spread ideas faster than the finest seeds could take
root.
No longer were the people content to bow their heads in submission, feeding
these merciless creatures while they did without. With their collective voice
resonating worldwide, the youth of the kingdom galvanized support under banners
of resistance, embarking on a mission to rid their home of its deadly
overlords. They understood that brute force wasn't their most potent weapon but
rather ingenuity and the power of unity.
They devised a plan that seemed as impossible as it was audacious: poison the
dragons through the very means used against them. Instead of warriors armed
with swords, they would wield delivery services " ordering, preparing, and
crafting a toxic feast the dragons would never suspect. Across screens lit in
every home, hashtags sprung to life, buzzing through social media:
#slaytheragons, #slaytrickorgeteliminated, and #whatdragonsbruh became rallying
cries for anyone eager for liberation, marking the beginning of an
unprecedented movement.
Packs of instructions on mixing potent, odorless, and tasteless poisons began
circulating online, educating an informed populace ready to put an end to
centuries of oppression. Coordinated efforts transformed deliveries into a
masquerade of tribute, hiding lethal gifts amid platters of seemingly ordinary
food. The plan’s success lay in its simplicity and surprise " exploiting the
greed and voracity of the dragons themselves.
When the long-awaited day of liberation dawned, trucks laden with poisoned
offerings reached the dragon's domain. Piles of tempting delicacies were left
unguarded, strategically positioned for maximum exposure. As the sun began to
set, casting long shadows over the land, the dragons descended with their
typical arrogance and gorged on the offerings without suspecting any deceit.
Their departure was marked by grumbled threats and the promise to return, but
fate had already charted a new course.
When the dragons failed to return the following day, hearts held their breath
in uncertainty, but the people soon turned to their screens, as always, for
solace and truth. The feeds of wilderness explorers began to reveal the truth,
their hands shaking and hearts jubilant, as they ventured into the dragons'
lair. They witnessed the fallen hooded giants lying lifeless, shadows of their
former terror, finally vanquished by those they had overlooked as weak and
incapable.
The once-mighty dragons, the scourge of generations, were no more. In their
wake, the explorers uncovered clutch after clutch of dragon eggs. Seizing the
opportunity to end tyranny for good, the eggs met the fate of destruction. As
they shattered, so too did the vestiges of fear and oppression that had long
tethered the people to despair.
Liberated from their formidable overlords, the kingdom emerged from the shadows
and stepped into a vibrant new age. No longer burdened by the hunger of beasts,
resources were spread more equitably, fields flourished under patient
cultivation, and industry, once stifled, moved forward with newfound fervor.
The tales of bravery and ingenuity that led to this rebirth became the stories
passed down from one generation to the next, less as a recount of history and
more as a testament to the power of unity and the human spirit.
Under clear skies, the people walked freely, no longer glancing warily to the
sky, afraid of what might descend upon them from darkened heavens. They lived
their lives with the confidence that tyranny, no matter how impenetrable it
seemed, could be overcome with courage, creativity, and camaraderie.
In the years that followed, the land thrived, not without its challenges, but
strengthened by a reminder that change requires action and a belief in a better
future. With each sunrise, their laughter rose with the dawn, their songs
filled the breeze, and an unyielding spirit of freedom carried their stories to
the stars. There was never a dragon problem again, and as the old warnings of
monstrous winged shadows faded into legend, one truth endured: united, they had
forged a new, hopeful path from the ashes.
