For you, Today

A poem for a friend who is an amazing listener

I wanted to write you another poem today
But somehow, I couldn’t find the words to say

You deserve better than some fabricated lines
Even though I’ve thought them a million times

Your eyes hold secrets your mouth may never tell
And your emotions are locked up tightly as well

In the past, someone hurt you and did you wrong
So now you smile politely at others just to get along

Someday we’ll meet and I’ll be able to look into your eyes
Maybe catch a glimpse of your soul and it’s quiet design

In that whisper of time, when our eyes finally meet
I’ll understand your heart and then make a quiet retreat
I wish there was more I could do for you, even from far away
So my only hope is that maybe you smiled for a while today

You are quite a mystery, one I’ll keep trying to figure out
But no matter what, you are my friend, that is with out a doubt
