Frankie And MeA Poem by Myrna H. RickardWritten for my daughter Doreena about her kittyFRANKIE AND ME
I had this little fat kitty That went in and out with me. And what could be the use of her Was more than I could see.
Everyday she would wait for me, At the very top of the stair. She would sit and watch each step I took And stay till I got there.
Then she would roll around the floor, Expecting me to massage her tummy. She’d purr and twist, enjoying it so, To her it was very “plumy”.
She waddled along in front of me, And showed me the rocking chair And though that’s where she wanted to lay, She was willing sometimes to share.
When she scrambled up onto the chair And laid flat upon her back Her body took up the entire space, And no comfort did she lack.
Sometimes, sitting at the piano I’d play a hymn or two. She would climb right up beside me, As if that were an important thing to do..
She was always stationed at the door Everyone who came she’d greet. She would meow her little “hello” to them And entwine around their feet.
No one got to pass her by Without giving her a pet. And there was always and ever a comment About such a big fat cat!
Now she’s gone from here forever And it would certainly be no surprise If she would greet me at the door of heaven, With those big expressive eyes.
So, when I see her at the door My joy will be complete. When she sweetly comes to greet me And entwine about my feet!
